Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how TaifaPay Limited ("TaifaPay", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you use Taifa Chat or Taifa Merchants (together, the "Services"). It should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions.

2. Information We Collect

We collect account information you give us (such as your name, phone number, email address and, for merchants, business and settlement details); transaction information generated when you send, request, split, collect or pay out money; identity and verification information we are required to collect under Kenyan law; and technical information such as device type, app version and log data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal data to operate the Services and process your transactions, to verify your identity and meet our anti-money-laundering and regulatory obligations, to detect and prevent fraud, to provide customer support, and to improve the reliability and security of the Services.

4. How We Share Your Information

We share only what is needed to move your money and run the Services: with payment rails and partners that execute your transactions (including M-Pesa, Pesalink and card networks), with service providers acting on our instructions, and with regulators, courts or law enforcement where we are legally required to do so. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

5. Security

Every transaction is encrypted and monitored. We apply technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration or loss, and we restrict internal access to staff who need it to do their work.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal and transaction data for as long as your account is active, and afterwards for the period required by Kenyan financial and data protection law. When data is no longer needed for those purposes, we delete it or anonymise it.

7. Your Rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, to access the personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion where the law allows, and to object to certain processing. Contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.

8. Cookies and Analytics

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working correctly and to understand how it is used in aggregate. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect parts of the site.

9. Children

The Services are not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we delete such data if we become aware that we have collected it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where changes are significant we will make that clear in the Services. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
